George B. Lynch whose serious illness was noted in our last issue passed away at his home here Friday night at 10 o'clock. Altho he had been in failing health for some time he had been about his home and out in town until two weeks ago when he suddenly became much worse. The trouble proved to be an abscess on the bladder and from the first the family had no hopes for his recovery. Mr. Lynch was one of Darlington's most prominent citizens, known and respected by all, admired for his keen wit and jovial disposition and loved for his generous, big heart. His many friends sincerely mourn his passing. George B. Lynch was born in Armaugh County, Ireland, May 12, 1844 and departed this life February 1, 1918. Age 73 years, 8 months 19 days. At the age of 19 he left his native country and came to the US. After a few years here he went to Canada where he met and married Adaline Hughson, Dec 3, 1870. In the fall of 1872 they came to this county where they have since resided. In 1873 they came to Darlington and Mr. Lynch took charge of the old woolen mill north of town where he engaged in the manufacturing of woolen goods. His next occupation was that of a brickmason. From this he became a contractor, building many roads in this and adjoining counties. He was a man with many friends, kind and generous, a loving father, and an affectionate husband. A number of years ago he united with the ME Church of this place. He was a teacher in the Sunday School and much beloved by his pupils. He was the father of 10 children, three of whom preceded him to the better land. He is survived by the wife, five sons, George, John and Robert of Darlington; Thomas of Chicago and Earl of Baldwin, Florida; two daughters, Mrs. Lynee Brainard and Mrs. Helen Remley of this place and 10 grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, William Lynch of Oklahoma and three sisters, Mrs. Sallie Byers of Chicago; Mrs. Mima Weller of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Guerney Woody of this place. The funeral was held at the ME Church Sunday afternoon at two o'clock and was in charge of Rev. Nicely. Roy and Earl Cox, Miss Gertrude Gray and Mrs. Ernest Weesner sang, "Jesus Lover of My Soul," Asleep in Jesus and "It is Well with My Soul." Pallbearers were John Graham, George Malsbary, W.A. Burgin, Earl Woody, Carper Crowder and AK Peterson. Interment was made in the IOOF Cemetery. The following persons from out of town were present for the service, Mrs. Thos. Lynch and son Leal; Mrs. Arlie Steele, Mrs. Maud Miller; Stanley Miller; Mrs. Mima Weller; Charles Weller and Miss Mima Hartung of Crawfordsville; Mrs. Sallie Byers; Mrs. Alice Eddington and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lynch of Chicago and Earl Lynch of Baldwin, Florida. - kbz
